Marble happens to be a Metamorphic rock, so it can be found if you have other Metamorphic rock, namely: Quartzite, Slate, Phyllite, Schist, and Gneiss. So the next thing you need to look for is a similar stone. So how do you tell if you have Marble? Well if you see Marble on your embark screen, that's a big hint (but you said you didn't).
